Confessions of An Off Duty Psychic: Broney's Hotel (Circa 1898)

I’d like to invite you to the "hazing" part of my mediumship.

It was the year of our Lord, 2009 when I met Bob from Blue Mountain Paranormal Society. The details are insanely hilarious. I was in stirrups at the OBGYN. The doula was describing her weekend with a local Paranormal research team and I shot up mid exam "I think I'm a Medium!"

Bob agreed to meet me but I had to pass a test. For all he knew I was just an extra large weirdo. And Bob didn’t believe in “my kind.”  He’s a “science guy.”

At that time, I also wasn’t sure what “my kind” was. But I felt compelled to this.

Bob was nice enough. Turns out he dated my cousin in high school and had a good sense of humor. Exploring the very large and dilapidated building, I heard many voices. In the basement, an angry man yelled “Get the Fuck Out!” directly in my ear.

On the third floor, a woman said “she’s going to tell all of our secrets.”

I shared what I was hearing.  Bob chuckled. I wasn't sure if he was laughing at me or with me.

When we finished the tour he admitted that what I was saying out loud during my walk through, BMPS had actually recorded with audio/video equipment during previous investigations. They even snapped a very clear photo of a man "rising" from the basement floor in a white t shirt and blue jeans.

Thus, Broney's Hotel had become the F'd up Hogwarts to my psychic mediumship with its many intricate layers of history and dozens of slick and weird entities, I learned: anything after death is possible. Nothing is black and white, or what you see on TV.

After one investigation with the team, I fell ill. A woman named “Helen” attached herself to me. I woke up in the middle of the night with burns on my arms. I had to soak them both in cold water for hours to take the pain and swelling away. I had to see a dermatologist for my skin and the late psychic medium Arlene Duggan to have her help me remove the spiritual attachment. Shortly after this nightmare, Blue Mountain Paranormal Society learned a previous owner of Broney's Hotel was named Helen. A few locals came forward, sharing stories of her being a "white witch" with an extensive paranormal book collection and a reputation for public ritual & table tapping.

In October 2011, I held a séance in the pottery room. Not only did this experience help to acquire the most incredible evidence caught in a short period of time but also more than one member of our group saw manifestation of a military man. During this event, I asked “Helen” if it was her intention to hurt me with the wounds I endured while I slept. At that precise time, a woman's laugh is recorded on our audio files.

A few months later, Blue Mountain Paranormal Society was asked to be at Broney's Hotel for a taping of Ghost Detectives. On another investigation, the team had to pull me outside and slap me in the face as I left my body. The Frank's Box (Spirit box) said my name right before it happened and I remember feeling like a 300lb weight had dropped on me and I was gone. You can believe I've learned psychic warding and that I take psychic and energy protection very, very seriously. Oh and that when someone asks me to go to Circa 1898, I never say yes. Ok, I may have said once but it was with my mom and we had coffee and fries and bounced because although I'm grateful for the things I've learned they weren't without cost and I don't need to get in touch with any of the spirits who still very much are taking up residence there.
